The Northamptonshire Libraries and Information Service is responsible for the provision of library services throughout the county. And if you thought your local library was just a place that loans books, think again!
Throughout the county numerous services are provided in addition to the huge collections of books available for loan or reference. You can hire CDs, cassettes, videos and CR-Roms; browse through newspaper and magazine publications; find information on health issues, the environment, business and the county; take part in workshops and use photocopying, fax and internet services.

A Special Access Mobile (SAM) Library service is also provided and visits Sheltered Housing, Residential and Day Care centres on a three weekly basis. The mobile library includes books in standard or large print, on cassette or in community languages; information books and leaflets on your rights, disabilities, benefits, health and local history and music on cassette. The Local Access libraries at Daventry, Kettering, Wellingborough and Weston Favell can provide more information about this service.
The Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is provided by Northamptonshire Libraries and Information and contains details of all material held by the library at all sites. It shows where material (books, sound recordings, maps, videos) can be obtained, whether it is available and how long it may be borrowed for. OPAC allows registered users of the library to check details of their use of the library, such as loans and reservations.
